OUR FIRST TIME HOSTING THIS CLASS AT OUR NEW SPACE! We believe with the new tooling and shop layout, this class will take less then the 10 hours it took in the past. Let’s plan for ten hours, and be delighted when we’re finished in 8 hours.

Our Damascus Steel Making Class is set up for the smith with some experience or alot of passion to learn the processes of making Damascus Steel using common carbon Damascus alloys and methods (1084/15n20). We spend the day together, learning the metallurgy and steps necessary to forge weld and pattern Damascus (Pattern welded) steel with the hopes that experienced smiths would be able to grow in their skills and produce these beautiful materials at home. In this class, you go home with one block of carbon damascus steel that they’ve forged and patterned- but not a tangible item made of that damascus. As time allows, we can forge it to the basic dimensions of your request. This class is intended for experienced smiths with their own tools, looking to expand their existing horizons and skills. No experience is necessary- but you might be in for ALOT of information overload if you’re completely green.

We only offer damascus making classes on weekdays- so reach out to schedule an opportunity!
This class is ten hours long and costs $650 per person, we can accommodate up to two students in this class.
This price includes all materials and supplies, and you’ll go home with a block of forge welded/patterened material ready to be made into something awesome! THIS CLASS DOES NOT END IN A FINISHED PRODUCT, it ends in a block that can be made into a finished product, by you, outside of this class. We can help you make a chunk that can be easily crafted into a blade if that’s what you fancy, and we can even put you in touch with a knife maker we work with- who’s thrilled to take your material and dream and turn it into a finished product if you’re not adequately set up and experienced to do that on your own.

Classes will take place at production blacksmithing studio in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Additional information will be emailed to those who sign up, usually one to two days before the class.
